THE EFFECT OF POINT-COUNTERPOINT STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY THROUGH LEGEND STORY

This research was on the effect of using point counter point strategy on students’ speaking skill ability in legend story at SMA Swasta Free Methodist 2 Medan. The this research was using experimental quantitative with two groups pre test and post test design. The samples taken were 80 tenth grade students of SMA Free Methodist 2 Medan from two classes namely class X-IPA and X-IPS after they have been selected in clustering sampling technique, then they were divided as experimental group and control group. The experimental group was taught by using Point-Counterpoint Strategy and the control group was taught by using conventional way. After analyzing the data into t-test formula by testing hypothesis, it was found that t-observed was 6,171 and t -table was 1,66462. It means that t-observed is higher than T-table. Based on the findings, the Point-Counterpoint Strategy significantly affects the tenth grade students’ speaking ability in legend story. On the other hand, it was stated that Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected. To conclude, the Point-Counterpoint Strategy used in experimental group significantly affects the tenth grade students’ ability in speaking legend story.
