THE DELETIONS OF ENGLISH PHRASES IN TWITTER BY NATIVE SPEAKERS

The objectives of this qualitative research on the Deletions of English Phrases in Twitter by Native Speakers were to: (1) investigate the types of English Phrases were deleted, (2) discover the types of deletion transformation used by the native speakers, and (3) describe how the deletions were transformed into tree diagrams. The data were obtained from Twitter as one of the sophisticated social networks and the subjects were taken from four famous native speakers. The instrument used was a smart phone with its sophisticated application to capture the Tweets. The samples were 40 Tweets The findings showed that the native speakers deleted both major and minor English Phrases deleted; NP, VP, AP, AdvP, and PP by using four among five types of deletion transformation, they were Relative Pronoun Deletion, Imperative Deletion, Coreferential NP Deletion, and Unspecified NP Deletion. In order to delete major English Phrases, those four types of deletion transformation were used to delete NPs in their Tweets but there was no Gapping found to delete VPs that this made A Negative Case Analysis to the findings. This study also applied Triangulation, namely Data Triangulation and Theoritical Triangulation. After analyzing the Tweets by using such interactive models, all the Tweets which contained the deletions of English Phrases were transformed into tree diagrams to describe how the grammar works in a language and show the hidden structures or meanings in the sentences from the highest to the smallest units.
