The Effect of Speed reading Technique on Students’ Ability in Reading Comprehension

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of speed reading technique on students’ ability in reading comprehension. This study used a quantitative research design. The population of the study was the eleventh grade students of SMA N 21 medan. There were about 30 students from two different classes that are used as sample for this study and examined by using random sampling. There were two groups randomized. The technique that taught to the experimental group was skimming technique. While the control group was conventional technique. The instrument of the study was multiple choice question with 50 items. The result of reliaility showed 0.81 which is high. The t-observed is 4.25 while t-table is 1.67 at the level of significance α = 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 58. The findings showed that thereb was significant effect of Speed Reading Technique on students’ Ability in Reading Comprehension which means the null hypothesis (Ho) is totally rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
