AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ABILITY IN IDENTIFYING PARTS OF SPEECH IN NARRATIVE TEXT AT SMP DARMA PANCASILA MEDAN

This study is intended to anlyze the stydents’ abillity in indentifiying parts of speech. Although the parts of speech have been studied Junior high school still have misunderstanding in mastering parts of speech. The make some errors when they apply parts of speech in sentences like students’ of SMP Darma Pancasila Medan. In this study, the researcher used qualitative method, which is defined as a research in which the data presented in the from written. This method is used to analyzed the problem systematically, therefore it can be easily understood and cocluded. Based on the analysis, the students’ abillity in using parts of speech there are more students categorized as Unable than Able in using the parts of speech in the sentences. Out of 36 students, 30 students are categorized Able, while the other 6 students are categorized Unable. The writer found some mistakes that should be read vowel or consonant. Some students have not known the noun is clear or no and the noun has been explained before or not. Thefore, the teacher should give more attention and motivation to their students’ in using parts speech.
